One Time-Engagement Option

Have a specific website problem? We’ve seen many over the last 25 years. These budget conscious engagements tackle very specific, yet common, website issues. Start at $2,500 and completed in 2 to 8 weeks.

Solutions to fix specific website problems.

Many times our mini engagements will expose an issue on your website that can be fixed with our one-time engagements.

Sometimes, you're already aware of the issue and need an expert to walk you through the process of repairing or preparing for something big (e.g. redesign, new CMS, third-party integration, etc.)

In either case, the below one-time website consulting engagements are meant to solve very specific and common website issues within 2 to 8 weeks without blowing out your marketing budget.

Custom Engagement Option

Websites are like snowflakes, there's no two alike. If you're facing unique problems, we can step in for 1 month, or up to 12, and fill in the gaps where help is needed.

We solve big website problems

Websites are like snowflakes — there's no two alike. If engaging us by the minute isn't enough, our mini engagements don't cover enough ground, or our one-time engagements aren't broad enough in scope, then forming a custom engagement might be the next right step.

We work really well with existing teams, agencies, other consultants, and really anybody. We're nice folks, easy to collaborate with, and focused on results.

Custom engagements are just that, custom to each client. Complexity of website, severity of issues, deadlines, who we're collaborating with, and the resources at our disposal are the major contributing factors to timeline and budget.

Our custom engagements typically range anywhere from $2,500 to $100,000 and last anywhere from 1 to 12 months.

Poorly Designed Website

At best, a poorly designed website sends the wrong message about your products and services. At worst, it’s damaging your credibility. Why risk it?

The Problem

Poor website design = untrustworthy business?

At least through the eyes of nearly half the people visiting your website. Studies show people have an instantaneous reaction to a website. Like, .05 seconds instantaneous. In the time it takes to blink, a positive or negative impression is created once they arrive on your website. If your website’s design is poor, there’s a high probability that you’ve left a bad first impression. Just how bad? Well, Stanford’s Persuasive Technology Lab found that almost half (46%) of people say a website’s design is the #1 criterion for discerning credibility. Not good.

The Solution

A poor design could be related to:

  1. Logo placement (too big, too small, not following branding guideline)

  2. Fonts (too similar, too many, not readable)

  3. Imagery (too generic, no styling consistency, slow load times)

  4. Colors (not harmonious, lacks proper contrast)

  5. Overall layout (lacks gestalt principles, no rhyme or reason to element placement)

If you’re cognizant of your website’s bad design, or your instincts tell you it’s possibly the crux of poor performance (e.g. conversion rate), we can help.

Frequently asked questions

What is website consulting?

We think it’s simply doing what is required in the short-term on your website, but also helping you see into the future more clearly.

Website consulting means talking, diagnosing, planning, and sometimes even helping you fix stuff. Thanks to technology, it can be carried out in person or remotely. Most of ours is done remotely thanks to virtual meeting software and project management tools.

What are typical website consulting fees & rates?

Fees and rates will vary depending on the firm’s experience and depth of the consulting.

If you want to hire a proven website consultant, their hourly rate will probably be somewhere between $125 to $250 per hour. Fees, again, depend on the level of consulting you’re buying and the complexity of your website. They could range anywhere from $100 to $100,000.

We offer a few mini engagements under $500 to earn your trust before we dig into one-time engagements or custom engagements.

What do website consultants do?

The word “consultant” comes with ambiguity. What exactly does one do?

Here are a few things:

  • Plan a website strategy consulting

  • Create website-specific user personas

  • Build a clickable prototype or wireframe

  • Gather & analyze website research

  • Improve your search engine optimization (SEO)

  • Help evaluate if you need a website rebuild

  • Detect & help fix common website issues

  • Plan the structure of your website with a site map

  • and much more!

What is a website consultation?

A website consultation is an initial meeting between a client and a professional website consultant. The conversation should keep a 20,000 foot view perspective and discuss the website's:

  • current team

  • current use of technology

  • what's working

  • what's not working

  • conversions

  • traffic

  • future deadlines (if any)

  • goals

To then answer these 3 critical questions:

  • Is the consultant/client a good fit?

  • Does the client's budget meet the consultant's offering?

  • Is the timeline acceptable to the client?

Who does a website consultant collaborate with?

A website consultant will work with a variety of teams. We, for example, collaborate with:

  • Agencies

  • Internal Teams

  • Contract Designers/Developers

Think of them as your website! They should fit into your workflow nicely and understand the dynamics of working with various skillsets and personalities.

Is "Web" consulting the same as "Website" consulting?

To some people, yes. But, from a true definition, no.

The Web (aka World Wide Web) refers to the entire network of interconnected online resources. Things like Email, APIs, websites, social media, video, maps, images, podcasts, search engines, and more. A Website (also written as "web site") is a specific entity within this network, consisting of related web pages accessible via a unique domain name (e.g. https://cybershieldco.ca/design).

The web acts as the broader landscape, while websites are like specific destinations within it. We offer website consulting.

Is a website consultant a good fit for your business?

Do I need to sign agreements/contracts?

Website consulting arrangements, at least from our experience, are work for hire situations. Most don’t require extensive website consulting agreements or contracts. We have a single authorization document for our one-time engagements.

One of the benefits of hiring a consultant is the “plug-and-play” value. They should be able to fix problems quickly and easily. Lengthy contracts and agreements only get in the way of solving problems.

With that said, engaging a web consulting firm without signing anything isn’t wise. At the very least, make sure the engagement details the scope of work that should include:

  • deliverables

  • timelines

  • pricing

  • unknowns (if any)

Do you offer web development consulting?

We rarely take on the actual execution work (design, development) with our engagements. If you need WordPress website development help or support.

We do often oversee the design and development efforts of websites (regardless of CMS) to ensure it maps and follows the strategy, architecture, content, and SEO plan.
